Digital Literacy Standards for Adults
How does your average adult know if their tech skills are sufficient in this day and age?
So, two things happened today. I received one piece of feedback from my organizing digital photos lecture from earlier this week. I also led a workshop on Google Sheets and Forms for library patrons. Not all registrants showed up, participants had different levels of background knowledge, and tech issues flustered one patron.
First, the feedback from Monday’s class was generally positive. We had a good turnout for this managing digital photos tech talk; a few people filled out the evaluation form and gave me high marks. Today, an entry came through that wasn’t so positive. The respondent complained that I talked too fast, presented too much information, and that it wasn’t a hands-on event. Perhaps this person missed my opening remarks when I stated that this was not a hands-on workshop and that attendees could follow up with personalized support through our Tech Tuesday drop-in program or by making a 30-minute tech consultation with our tech experts. I do talk fast and can work on that. I am also aware that I can overwhelm some in my attempts to be thorough when providing information.
